The first few days in London part 1

As I have earlier mentioned in another of my blogs that Ashish had already settled on a house in London for me to move into when I reach there with little Dhairya. The house is but a 2 BHK shared between us and another couple (Manish Bhai and Poonam Bhabhi.) We have to ourselves the Loft room which is quite spacious and also has three cots. The loft room is also colder than the rest of the house as it is spacious. But it is better with the heater on.

Ashish was managing with Indian tiffin service before I came and we did continue with the same for a couple of days before I actually started cooking. I reached London on a Wednesday and on Thursday(21st Dec), Ashish took off from his office to show me around the place. But as it was biting cold and we did not then have a Pram to carry Dhairya around, we went upto a supermarket Morrisons which was located just about 0.2 miles away from our house. This probably can be called as my first experience of shopping in London.

It was also my first day time experience of London. I was pretty impressed with the orderliness and the neatness of the city. It was a contrast from the noisy, smoke filled streets of Bangalore, where you would struggle to find space on pedestrian walkways. Here there were hMy ardly any people that you could see, very few pedestrians and not even one tenth the traffic as in Bangalore.

My true shopping experience for groceries did happen on th saturday with Manish bhai and Poonam Bhabhi while Dhairya was asleep and being taken care by Ashish. They own a car just because it helps them do their bulk shopping. One thing I realised too soon is that if you need to make your shopping more economical, then buy in bulk, which would indeed make a lot of your savings.

On saturday evening we had Parag Bhai visiting us. I did not have much to offer although, as my kitchen was not completely set. Ashish did get some squash and chips which I did offer and some fruits also. We went out for dinner that night at an Indian restaurant called "Ram's " located on Kenton Road about a mile away from our house, which primarily had a Gujarati menu. I also did realise that eating out in London is no pleasure as it is very expensive.
