The Buggy Race!!!!

You might say...I have heard of the Aryan race, Dravidian, Persian, Arabs etc..but what is it about the Buggy race.... At first it may also sound to you like the race that was held between the Tortoise and the Bunny...remember that "story with a moral" from your preschool days? But wait you will say noticing the two gg in place of the n's. Maybe a typo..you might want to just ignore....but no.... what I am about to reveal here is just a juxtaposition of the various meanings of the word "race".

Amidst and within the presence of the various races of the world is a small race omnipresent amongst all races..."the buggy race". Buggy - the Pram, the Push chair, the Pusher and you can call it anything to suit your convenience, comes in all sizes, all colours, all shapes. Some fold of like an Umbrella, others open up like one and the rest are plainly made to meet various purposes including their primary function to carriage a baby, a toddler and sometimes a boy(or girl) who has seen past his toddler hood.

So what is it that has prompted me to write about this......

Parenthood...surely brings a lot of joys into your life...with it, it also brings your entry into the "Buggy Race", it is the special feature of the people belonging to this race, they have back bent as though in a position of Yoga with stretched hands and some looks which you will never be able to decipher. For a split second you may want to think if the Baby is leading the parent or the other way.... As for the Parents, even they come in different sizes, shapes and colours.

The most special thing about being a part of this class is that you get the right of way almost always - in traffic signals, at bus queues, at immigration counters - almost everywhere. If you are not in the luxury of countries like India or some other such, where the Rickshaws can just pick you up almost from anywhere to drop you anywhere, where home delivery of goods is not adding on to your Bills and where you just have a large extended family to give you a hand at carrying your baby around, believe me you just cannot do without a Buggy.

Thankfully the town planners in London were given enough recognition for their work to put their complete thought into what they were doing. Barring some of the underground stations, you can almost go anywhere with your baby and the buggy without bothering about the ascends and descends. Buses have special low entrance and exits, the pavements are so well maintained and almost all the superstores have provisions too. The only problem is when on the days when coincidences are at a peak and all mothers at once decide to push their kids into the buses, you are at a loss as where to stand and where not...I just wonder how they overlooked this possibility? However the underground stations are also getting an uplift, and it may be soon history about worrying to trod to the station for a tube with a carriage in hand and no hand to help.

And whats more, your own buggy can come with different functionalities, some come with huge shopping bags where you can dump all the shopping you do, some come with the foot rest on the behing where an older child can stand while you push from farther behind, some also happen to come with some kind of hooks where you can hang all your bags etc... it's just possible that your baby is still safe and sound, somewhere in there amidst all the stuff you got there.

Well so we have, by our own means created one certainly common race " the buggy race". So when you next see a lady pushing the pram, you just have to standby and say "thank you" as it gives one more reason for us to know that after all we are the Children of the same father.
